Ecole McTavish recognizes that we live, work, and create on the ancestral territories of the Dene, Nêhiyawak, and Metis Nations, and other First Nations peoples. We acknowledge all indigenous peoples, whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries. We are all treaty people together in our collective home within the boundaries of Treaty 8.

At McTavish we believe that people do their best work when they feel valued, and when they feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves. Our music program is based around the notion of family and togetherness, and while we work hard to grasp just beyond our reach as individuals, we also realize the importance of leaning on each other and growing together as a group. We believe that it's possible to maintain a very high standard while also allowing each other to "fall into" music at our own pace, and the way we achieve this is through building self esteem and character through performance. The largest motivational force in our classroom is the bond that the musicians have with each other - we want to perform our very best for each other, not just for ourselves.
