The course dates for each group are as follows:
First Group: January 13th, 20th, 27th, and February 3rd from 08:30 to 10:30
Second Group: January 13th, 20th, 27th, and February 3rd from 10:45 to 12:45
Third Group: January 22nd, 29th, and February 5th, 10th from 08:30 to 10:30
Participants will explore oral presentation strategies and improve their communication skills, enabling them to effectively express innovative ideas, increase their visibility and maximise the impact of their research beyond academia: this includes engaging with a wide range of stakeholders such as industry and government. The course is aimed at early-stage researchers and postgraduate students.
COURSE CONTENT
This workshop covers:
Techniques and language used in giving presentations.
Each student will be required to prepare a 10-minute presentation. Considerable time will be dedicated to developing and delivering simulated presentations, followed by thorough feedback analysis to ensure rapid and tangible improvement.
The individual and group coaching will focus on effective slide design, describing graphs and data, use of the most appropriate & accurate vocabulary, fine tuning pronunciation and diction, leading to increased confidence & levels of fluency

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
Implement personalized planning strategies to address gaps in their research communication skills.
Utilize strategies for communicating progress review tasks.
Present research in oral formats that align with their discipline and career aspirations.
Match communication modes and conventions to appropriate target audiences.
Build a strategic portfolio demonstrating communication skills development to support their research career path.
Explore professional speaking techniques and prepare research pitches.

About the instructor: Jim Crittenden
A graduate in Human Biology ( BSc Hons) Jim has been teaching English in Trentino for over 30 yrs. He now specializes in coaching industry and business professionals and executives in improving their communication skills in the international domain. Over the last 5 years Jim has used his scientific background and vast experience to coach researchers at FEM and FBK to enhance their language and NVC skills, in particular when giving presentations, working on effective slide design, using the most appropriate, accurate vocabulary, fine-tuning pronunciation, raising confidence levels and thus fluency.
