Proactive Planning Tools

When setting up your student's work space, is it...

  1. Quiet?

Often times virtual students aren't the only ones at home. Parents may also be working from home, and other siblings, too! Noises from other people in addition to activities (TVs on, phones ringing, loud talking, etc.) can be distracting to FLVS students. Not to mention, it has to be quiet for tests and DBAs! Be sure the area is calm and conducive to learning.

  1. Well-lit?

The beauty of laptops is mobility, but the downfall is most students work with their materials on their laps! This then lends to sitting on a couch, recliner, or bed. When students are in a more relaxed environment with the goal of being productive--chances are, these two things don't mix well. Have a chair with a sturdy back, suggested at the dining table or a desk.

  1. Helpful to learning?

Organization is key. If your student is at a desk or table, be sure that the tabletop is cleared of anything not related to the day's work. Essentials for working (those school supplies!) should be out and neatly off to the side, in addition to the day and/or weekly planner. And don't forget the most important tool for online work--internet! Set up somewhere in the house with strong and regular signal.

Where to go and what to use for getting your student organized in their at-home learning environment.
