Below you will find a wide variety of writing prompts that can get your creative juices flowing! Please note that these prompts are 100% original and made by the moderators(each prompt and writing challange they create will have their name signed to it).
The Writing Trials: A Competitive Writing Arena
This isn't required! This is just something fun to do in your spare time :) if you would like to share your work (and how many points you get ;D) go to our padlet and upload it onto there!
How to earn Points:
Prompt Completion: +7 pts
Challenge Completion: +5 pts
Bonus twist: +3 pts
You have 25 min to complete as many tasks as you can (adding more soon)! Tally up the points to see your score.
BONUS Challenge for any task: Roll a 6 sided dice (you can find some online) and whatever number it lands on, you have double the amount of that time to write it. +5 pts
Task 1:
Prompt: A new door appears in your school that wasn’t there yesterday.
Challenge: Write it in exactly 150 words and no character is allowed to ask a question.
Bonus Twist: The door is described without saying its color.
Task 2:
Prompt: You notice something/someone in your classroom (or any social area ex. workplace) that only you can see.
Challenge: Write from the POV of an object in the scene.
Bonus Twist: The object used to go to the school (change according to what social area you use) when it was human (think the teacups from beauty and the beast.)
Task 3:
Prompt: "I swear that wasn’t there yesterday."
Challenge: 7 minutes only. No erasing/backspacing.
Bonus Twist: End with a single-word sentence.
Task 4:
Prompt: A character writes a letter they’ll never send.
Challenge: You may NOT use emotion words (sad, angry, scared, happy, etc.)
Bonus Twist: The reader doesn't know who the letter is for.
Task 5:
Prompt: The villain is actually trying to save everyone.
Challenge: Start with the ending and work backward.
Bonus Twist: The villain never explains themselves.
Task 6:
Prompt: You’re a guide for people who get lost between worlds.
Challenge: One paragraph, beginning, middle, end included OR a short poem.
Bonus Twist: End the story with the same line it began with.
Task 7:
Prompt: You overhear a conversation that was not meant for you.
Challenge: You may not use any character names and no direct dialogue (no quotation marks).
Bonus Twist: The setting is revealed only through background details.
Task 8:
Prompt: You find something that gives you a superpower.
Challenge: Your story must include exactly 2 questions, 1 exclamation point, and 1 interrobang (!?).
Bonus Twist: End the story with a 2 word sentence.
Task 9:
Prompt: You're stranded somewhere and you can send one final message.
Challenge: Write it as a poem.
Bonus Twist: Do not explain why it’s the last message.
