Experiencing supervised, practical driving instruction is an essential step to becoming a licensed driver. No matter what kind of prior driving experience you have had, we always recommend behind-the-wheel (BTW) lessons to ensure that you are fully prepared for a lifetime of safer driving! Each county in Florida offers different options for driving lessons. Some counties even offer the lessons for free. Check out the options in your county and schedule lessons when you are eligible and available to get out on the road with an instructor.
Alachua County:

Once you have a license, Alachua County students may contact Alachua County Public Schools to register for driving instruction through the Traffic Safety Center.
Brevard:
As a Brevard County resident, you are eligible for four (4) free hours of in-person behind-the-wheel driving instruction. Once you have a license, you may complete the registration online through the Florida Safety Council. You’ll need your FLVS username to register. Florida Safety Council Registration
Broward County:
If you reside and attend school in Broward County, and are interested in BTW instruction, you have an opportunity to participate in Broward County Public School's Driver Education program. For more information, please visit Broward County Public Schools Driver Education.
Charlotte County:
Charlotte County Public Schools driving instruction is provided through the Dori Slosberg Act. Students may contact Ault's Driving School at (941) 474-5125 to register for driving instruction. Training availability, registration, restrictions, and fees are determined by Charlotte County.
Duval County:
Duval County students may contact Duval County Public Schools at (904) 858-6080 to register for driving instruction through the Department of Family and Community Engagement. Training availability, registration, restrictions, and fees are determined by Duval County.
Escambia County:
Escambia County students may contact Escambia County Public Schools at (850) 316-3962 to register for driving instruction.
Hillsborough County:
If you reside in Hillsborough County, and are interested in BTW instruction, you have an opportunity to participate in Hillsborough County Public School's Driver Education Summer program. For more information, please visit Hillsborough County Public Schools Driver Education.
Lake County:
If you reside in the Lake County School District, in partnership with the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, offers *scholarships to eligible high school students for Behind the Wheel (BTW) Driving Instruction classes. Please note that the BTW Program is an extension of the school day.*Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and are not based on financial need.
Student Eligibility Criteria:
Student must be a resident of Lake County.
Student must be currently registered in a Lake County Public, Private, Virtual High School or be registered as a Home School student.
Student must be in good standing with their school (see registration form for more info).
Student must possess a Driver Learner's license.
Have proof of current automobile insurance.
Program features include:
Students participating in the BTW program will receive 10 hours of actual behind-the-wheel driving instruction and 10-20 hours of driving observation.
Students are assigned to classes of three student participants.
Classes originate from a Lake County Public High School or the Student Services Building located in Howey-in-the-Hills.
Classes are composed of two (2) or three (3) students and a BTW instructor.
Classes are held on weekday afternoons, Saturdays and during selected school breaks.
BTW instructors are teachers who work in Lake County and are certified by the State to provide driving instruction.
Vehicles used for BTW driving classes are clearly marked “Student Driver” and have an additional brake for the instructor.
Register:
Lake County students who meet these requirements may contact Lake County Public Schools via email or by calling (352) 253-6778 to receive an application for driving instruction.
Orange County:
Once you have a license, Orange county students may complete the registration online Florida Safety Council and you need your FLVS ID register to receive six hours of free behind-the-wheel driving instruction on the road!
Polk County:
As a Polk County resident, you are eligible for six (6) free hours of in-person behind-the-wheel driving instruction.
Once you have a license, you may complete the registration online through the Florida Safety Council.
You’ll need your FLVS username to register.
Seminole County:
