Please refer to the Student Handbook for information concerning required attendance and how absences are handled.
CLARIFICATION OF EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP WORK
1. Parent notes are considered excused absences and students are allowed to make up all work missed. However, parent notes DO count against the 10 day limit for classes.
2 Doctor notes, court dates, death in the immediate family accompanied by a valid funeral pamphlet, and school-related absences, i.e. field trips, testing off site, etc., are considered excused absences and students are allowed to make up all work missed. These excused absences DO NOT count against the 10 day limit for classes.
3. Students in Model High School’s Honors Program taking Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), or Dual Enrollment (DE) classes are part of a more rigorous curriculum with higher expectations. Honors and AP students are allowed to make up any missed work due to excused absences ONLY. The MHS Honors Program Late Work and Make-up policy can be found here.
EXAM EXEMPTIONS
Students may exempt an exam in a class in which they have a passing grade and a set number of absences (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1) for each semester. Students may choose to take an exam without harm to their average.
