Principal - Kevin Strickland
Mr. Strickland is a 1990 graduate of Rockmart High School. He previously taught English at Rome High School for 21 years. During his tenure at Rome, he coached basketball for 19 years and for six years he served as the athletic director. After dedicating two years to serving as the Assistant Principal of Discipline at Model High School, followed by a year in the same role at Armuchee High School, Mr. Strickland returned to Model High School in 2020, assuming the esteemed position of principal.
Mr. Strickland obtained his B.S. and M. Ed. degrees in English from Jacksonville State University and his Ed. S. in Educational Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.
Mr. Strickland has been married to his wife, Erin, for 24 years. She is a teacher with Calhoun City Schools, and they have an 19-year-old son, Ryan, who is a freshman at the University of Georgia.
Assistant Principal - Kendall Roberts
Kendall Roberts is a 2007 graduate of Model High School and a third-generation alumna. She continued her education at Berry College, where she was a part of the women’s basketball program, and earned a B.S. in Health and Physical Education. Immediately after graduation, she returned home to Model and served as the Girls Weights Teacher before transitioning to Math in 2014. Since then, Mrs Roberts has earned her M.Ed in Health and Physical Education from Jacksonville State University, her Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University, and her Tier 1 Educational Leadership Certification from Piedmont University.
During her 15 years at Model, Mrs. Roberts has had the pleasure of teaching a wide variety of classes, including weights, Health and Personal Fitness, High School 101, and several levels of Math. She served as the assistant coach of the Inaugural MHS volleyball team during the 2011-2012 school year, and proudly served as Head Coach for the last 14 years. She has also served as the Head Girls' Soccer Coach, basketball coach, Miss Model Director, Homecoming Block Party Coordinator, NHS Faculty Council Member, FCA Huddle Coach, and Hall of Fame Committee member. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2022 and was a member of the Leadership Academy through Floyd County Schools in 2023.
Mrs. Roberts is in her first year as Instructional Assistant Principal at MHS. She is married to Trevor Roberts, who is the lead Echocardiography instructor at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. They have two children, Lauren, a sixth-grade student at Model Middle, and Cora, a third-grade student at Johnson Elementary.
Assistant Principal - Shane Arp
Arp is a veteran educator, administrator, and coach with over two decades of experience within the district , and he brings a proven track record of leadership, integrity, and dedication to the Model community.
Arp transitions to MHS following a highly successful tenure as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director for Armuchee High School (AHS). His exceptional leadership in athletic administration was recently recognized statewide when he was named the Fall 2024 Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA) Athletic Director of the Year—an honor voted on by regional principals and fellow athletic directors.
Arp began his academic journey by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education from Shorter College, where he attended on a baseball scholarship. Committed to continuous professional growth, he went on to earn a Master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University, an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University, and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Berry College.
Over his 15 years as an administrator and 20-plus years as a coach, Arp has been a pillar in building quality, relationship-driven, and supportive student programs. His extensive coaching resume spans middle and high school levels across multiple sports—including football, baseball, softball, basketball, and track.
Arp will take the place of Mike House, who announced his retirement this week, and we thank him for all that he did for the MHS family.
In his new role, Arp will work closely with the MHS administration team to build upon the school's strong academic foundation, utilizing his deep education background to help students prepare for post-secondary success, being an asset to all he encounters.
