The Collective was formed in 2018, after the Supreme Court of India struck down the part of Section 377 of the Indian Constitution that criminalised consensual homosexual sex. It was founded with the idea that there needs to be more conversation and awareness about the LGBTQIA+ community within India so that people feel safe, accepted, and proud of their identities.
We aim at providing those of various sexual and gender identities with a platform to express themselves openly without fear of harassment or discrimination, as well as educating the student body about queer identities and issues. Our mission is to make FLAME a safer and more positive space for queer students by spreading awareness and providing support.
