Graduation with Honors and Ceremony Recognition
Florida Virtual High School candidates for graduation who demonstrate high levels of scholarship throughout high school may graduate with honors. Graduation with honors is conferred on students who earn a high school diploma with a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of at least:
3.500 cum laude (with honors)
3.800 magna cum laude (with great honors)
4.000 summa cum laude (with highest honors)
Honors levels are based solely on the weighted GPA earned in all coursework taken in grade levels 9-12 per state statutes and FLVS policy. The graduation program includes GPA calculations based on the first semester of each student’s senior year due to the amount of time needed to print the program.
In addition, the top five students in the class and the Talented Twenty (top 20% of the class) are determined at the end of the 1st semester of the senior year using the student's cumulative weighted GPA. The graduation ceremony includes calculations from the second semester of senior year allowing the honors line-up and marching order to be based on the entire senior year. Therefore, senior rankings in the program may be different than ranking in the graduation line-up.
Florida Virtual High School takes pride in recognizing its seniors and distinguishing its honors candidates at the commencement ceremony. Students participating in the in-person ceremony will receive appropriate regalia as outlined below. Only the graduation regalia provided, including honors, community service, and other honor organizations listed below, may be worn during the commencement ceremony.
