Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to Troy High School! We are hopeful that when we develop a partnership with parents, we become much stronger in our mission to prepare your child for the rest of their life. 

My name is Joel Medina, English Learner Family Liaison at Troy High School. I have worked in education for over ten years, starting my career as an English language teacher in Peru where I taught English as a foreign language for close to five years. Since 2015, I have also taught adult education classes including Citizenship, ESL, and other professional skills courses. For the last five years, I taught in Santa Ana Unified School District as an ELA/ELD teacher.

You are receiving this letter because your student is currently classified as an English learner. Please know that I am here for you if you or your student need additional guidance or support. Currently, I work with parents as an advisor for the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) and I would love for you to consider joining this group. This committee works to advise school officials on various policies and procedures related to English language learners in order to ensure student academic and personal success. 

I have always believed that the key to a student’s success depends on the engagement and commitment of everyone involved, from teachers, to counselors, parents, administrators, and students themselves. As Family Liaison, my primary purpose is to facilitate communication and collaboration between families and schools to best ensure the success of all students.

I want to thank you for all you have done already for your students to help them take advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. I am looking forward to our work together, to learning from you, and to collaborate as a team at Troy High School.
