Empowering Pet Parents: Free Registration Tips, Chip Info, & Resources for Keeping Pets Safe
Did You Know?
Most microchips inserted at a vet’s office come with the first year of online registration free, but after that, many require an annual fee to stay active. Microchips rely on accurate registration to work—so what happens if you move or need to update your address but aren’t sure which company to contact? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
In addition to microchip guidance, this resource also covers recovery tags, fence repair tips, and other tools to keep your pets safe and secure. If your pet has gone missing, be sure to visit the Lost and Found section of this guide for steps to take, helpful templates, and community resources to increase your chances of a happy reunion. Together, we can ensure your pets are protected and cared for in every situation.
Don’t worry! If your dog is already microchipped but you’ve misplaced the paperwork, here’s how to proceed:
Scan Your Dog’s Microchip: Use the chip scanning station to scan your dog. Once detected, record the microchip number by either writing it down or taking a picture of the display with your mobile device.
Look Up the Chip Manufacturer: Use a universal microchip lookup tool like the one provided HERE to identify the manufacturer or registry associated with the chip.
Register or Update the Chip: Once you have the necessary information, you can register or update your dog’s chip through any universal registration platform. We recommend using Buddy ID, but there are many other free options available, which are listed below for your convenience.
This process ensures your pet’s chip is active and linked to your current contact information, providing peace of mind and the best chance of reuniting if they ever go missing.
