Preliminary Assessment Results

Preliminary results of IUU fishing assessment in clusters of LGUs in Calamianes, Iloilo, Northern Negros and Southern Negros conducted by USAID Fish Right using the zero version of the IUU Fishing Index and Threat Assessment Tool in 2020. The experience informed and enhanced the development of the current version of I-FIT Tool (version one), whilst more importantly facilitating the IUU fishing reduction efforts of the concerned LGUs.

These are results of the IUU fishing assessment in clusters of LGUs led by BFAR, with USAID Fish Right and other partner Non-Government Organizations and Higher Education Institutions using the current version of I-FIT Tool (version one). The in-depth understanding of the vulnerability, prevalence and responses to IUU fishing in these given areas informs the development and implementation of long-lasting, strategic and purposive strategies and solutions to reduce IUU fishing in these given areas in particular and in the country in general.
