Tests and Exams

Tests

Tests and quizzes are used to gauge student understanding and inform subsequent teaching. A student will not have more than two major tests in one day. If a teacher sets a date for a test and a student already has two tests scheduled for that day, the student must inform the teacher who will then negotiate another date for the test. Short quizzes do not constitute major tests. A test measures learning of a much larger amount of content, (e.g. the topic of nutrition studied for six weeks). Please note students who are absent due to school related events should not be expected to take tests or other assessment work the first day they arrive back in order for the student to seek support or clarification on missed work before having to take an assessment.

Exams

Students in Grades 6-9 do not have cumulative end of year exams. They may have placement assesments in mathematics and languages that help to place the student in the appropriate level class in the following year.
