Honest, accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making and has the potential to save lives. For these reasons and more, First Unitarian Church of Wilmington is proud to offer Our Whole Lives (OWL), a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education curriculum.

The overall goal of Our Whole Lives is to create a positive and comprehensive lifespan educational program that helps participants gain the knowledge, values, and skills to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in a range of subject areas, including: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, gender identity, sexual orientation, and cultural influences on sexuality. 

Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.

Interactive workshops and lessons engage participants, while step-by-step instructions for program planners and facilitators help ensure success. 

Our Whole Lives Offers

  • A safe and supportive peer group

  • Acceptance of diversity

  • A social justice approach to inclusive sexuality education

  • Parent orientation that affirms parents as their children’s primary sexuality educators

  • Facilitators trained to lead specific age groups.

  • Facilitators who are background checked.

  • Expert user support for facilitators from the Unitarian Universalist’s Association OWL Program Manager and the United Church of Christ’s Minister of Sexuality Education and Justice

Our Whole Lives Values

Our Whole Lives is not values-free. The program gives clear messages about the following key sexuality issues:

• Self-worth

• Sexual health

• Responsibility

• Justice and inclusivity

OWL is offered every other year to the following age groups.

• • Kindergarten/First Grades: January 2026

  • Fifth/Sixth Grades: January 2027

  • Eighth/Ninth Grades: October 2025
