for The Circle Players Production of

The Conundrum on the Crackerjack Cruise

A mystery dinner theater show by Nancy Bond

Auditions are being held

Monday January 26, 2026 at 6:30pm

Richardson Hall, 551 Farragut Circle, El Cajon 

Auditions will consist of two parts:

1.  Perform a short, memorized monologue 

 (not to exceed one minute).

2.  Cold readings from the script.

About the show:  The setting for the show is on the cruise ship “Grand Jubilation” bound for the Bahamas.  The crew has arranged for a special guest to exhibit her extensive collection of jewels, including a rare, large rose diamond ring.  Cruise passengers, including the audience, while enjoying a meal, participate in a fun game night competition.  But the fun soon turns to intrigue when the rare rose diamond is stolen.  Audience members must guess who the culprit is.

 The Circle Players welcomes and encourages adults of all ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities to audition.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Ship’s Crew:

Randall Whitfield (any gender):  The captain of the ship.  Only a few lines as Captain, but doubles as the ship’s detective in the last scene.

Loralee LeVeque (any gender):  The ship’s cruise director.  Good ad lib skills a plus during the audience participation portions.

Sasha (any gender):  Assistant cruise director.  Works hard and feels unappreciated by Loralee.

Nigel (any gender):  Head stateroom attendant for VIP Guests.

Lyndell Whitfield (any gender):  Twin of ship’s captain (played by same actor).  Chief of Security who helps solve the theft.

Other crew members and assistants (with a few lines) are needed, especially during the game competition.

VIP Passengers:

Evita Wexler (mature woman):  Wealthy widow traveling at the request of Loralee, to exhibit her rare jewel collection.

Tiffany Wexler (younger woman):  Granddaughter of Evita, helping to care for Evita after giving up her scholarship to MIT.  Expects inheritance.

Margery Yake (female): Claims to have won the cruise as a grand prize.  Busybody.  Overbearing wife of Paul.

Paul Yake (male):  Husband to Margery. Doubts that Margery won the prize.  Stressed about going into debt.

Jill Silverman (female):  Intelligence young woman who graduated from college just over a year ago.  Love-at-first-sight wife of Jack.  Struggling financially.

Jack Silverman (male):  Husband to Jill, Jack also claims to have won the cruise.  Professional safe cracker, recently released from parole.
