A structured refresher course that covers attack methods (direct, indirect, combination), attack techniques (“T”, “Z”, “O”), fires in upper levels of structures, below grade structure fires, and entry techniques. Students will work in teams of 2 and practice proper team work, hose handling, and communications.

Evening or AM/PM Class
This course teaches students the various types of structural ventilation, the program covers natural, mechanical, hydraulic, & vertical ventilation. Discussion on correct ladder placement for ventilation and power saw safety. Students will work in pairs to complete vertical ventilation.

This half day scenario based program involves live fire evolutions set up by NSFS staff. Evolutions may involve search, rescue, ventilation, forcible entry, emergency egress situations, firefighter down situations, ladder deployment & usage, above, below, and same grade fire attacks. Evolution difficulty progresses throughout the course. Departments are encouraged set up their own Incident command and practice department procedures with input from the NSFS staff. Upon conclusion of each evolution, the students and instructors critique the evolution and discuss skills and outcome.

2 days/weekend- counts as 2 sessions
This course will give students fire control training including theory; entry techniques; extinguisher training; sprinkler systems; direct, indirect and combination attacks; same, above and below grade fire attacks; setting up a ground monitor (department supplied); vehicle fire; dumpster fire / stacked pile fire (department supplied); turning off utilities.
Course can be completed as either full two days or a split evening and full day.
Host department MUST supply a vehicle(s), a large dumpster, and material for a stacked fire.

Evening or AM/PM session
This program is designed to instill confidence and build on the fundamentals of proper use of personal protective equipment and self contained breathing apparatus (PPE & SCBA). The course begins with a review on our PPE & SCBA and discusses important features, limitations, and emergency procedures that all firefighters should understand. The courses progresses into the fundamentals of Search and Rescue operations in low visibility conditions then progressing into a simulated hazardous atmosphere with zero visibility & elevated temperature conditions.

This 8 hour course is designed to give firefighters 4 hours of structured refresher that covers attack methods (direct, indirect, combination), attack techniques (“T”, “Z”, “O”) and entry techniques, combined with 4 hours of scenario based live fire. This scenario based portion involves live fire evolutions set up by NSFS staff. Evolutions may involve search, rescue, ventilation, forcible entry, emergency egress situations, firefighter down situations, ladder deployment & usage, above, below, and same grade fire attacks. Evolution difficulty progresses throughout the course. Departments are encouraged set up their own Incident command and practice department procedures with input from the NSFS staff. Upon conclusion of each evolution, the students and instructors critique the evolution and discuss skills and outcome.

Full Day Class- counts as 2 sessions
This 8 hour course spends the first half teaching students the various types of structural horizontal ventilation including natural, mechanical and hydraulic ventilation. The second half teaches correct techniques for vertical ventilation including ladder placement, safely operating on a roof, proper cut techniques, venting smoke, communications, as well as a discussion on power saw safety. Students will progress into coordinated fire attacks allowing each student the opportunity to complete full vertical ventilation as well as complete a same grade fire attack.

Evening or AM/PM session
This sequel to the popular 401 course gives students the opportunity to practice their previously learned fundamental skills of fire attack. Students begin the course with an introduction followed by a safety tour of the MBU and then begin fire suppression activities. Students may have the opportunity to practice entry techniques, hose advancement, forcible entry, hydraulic ventilation, combined with direct, indirect & combination fire attacks.
