At FiredUp, our mission is to advance the well-being of federal wildland firefighter families.
In September of 2023, we realized there was a desperate need to elevate the voices of the partners (wives, girlfriends, husbands, boyfriends) of federal wildland firefighters and bring awareness to the "homefront" issues we experience while our partners are battling wildfires.
We know that there is no one who is better equipped to educate Congress, federal agencies, and the general public about the challenges faced by wildland families or to propose and advocate for solutions to these challenges. Working alongside other organizations in this sphere, we represent the lived experiences of the families of more than 15,000 federal wildland firefighters.
Beyond our legislative outreach and public education, FiredUp provides ongoing support to wildland families as we navigate the ups and downs of fire season. As wildland partners ourselves, we know we understand the complexities of this life. We offer personal support and community building events. Wildland partners are encouraged to join our support group, subscribe to our mailling list, and follow us on social media.
Our Current Priorities.
FiredUp is actively engaged with families who have been affected by the California wildfires. If you need resources, you can find a list here.
We are continuing to fight for the passage of the WFPPA. While it is an imperfect solution, it is an important first step. We are also committed to helping families be ready for the change.
FiredUp is also creating a comprehensive handbook for wildland families; this work is underway and we look forward to sharing it with our community soon.
Get involved!
There are five easy ways you can help improve the lives of wildland fire families:
1. Donate to FiredUp. While we are currently an all-volunteer organization, operational expenses and our advocacy work costs money. Donations of any amount are absolutely essential to keep us running. Please reach out to us to donate
2. Volunteer with us. We rely on volunteer efforts to help us sort through data, contact Congress, write op-eds, create content for our social media platforms, and help make our support programs function. Whether you have one hour or 100, we are thrilled to have you join your efforts with us!
3. Join our organization as a member. By joining our organization as a member, you amplify our voices. Memberships are available to anyone who supports our goals, with special benefits for wildland firefighters and their partners.
4. Subscribe to our mailing list. Help spread our message by joining our mailing list. Stay informed about our current priorities, be notified of new volunteer opportunities, and learn more about community support by subscribing to our mailing list.
