What we're focused on right now
We are actively tracking threats to public lands and the changes happening in with the US Forest Service reorganization and in the DOI with the Wildland Fire Service.
You can read our statement regarding the USFS reorganization, the creation of the USWFS. and more here.
Handbook
One of the first non-policy projects we started was developing a comprehensive handbook for wildland families. Version 1 of this handbook is nearly complete! It covers topics like reintegration, mental health, supporting children in wildland households, and more. It even includes a glossary of terms to help bridge the gap between firefighter speak and plain English.

Political Candidate Survey
Before the 2024 election, we sent surveys out to over 150 candidates running for federal offices, with a particular focus on western states and places where our FiredUp Partners let us know they were located.
If a candidate running in your district responded, you can find their answers below. If you don't see a response from a candidate in your area, they likely didn't respond to our request. You can email them the link to our survey and ask them to complete it.
While FiredUp Partners is not endorsing candidates this election cycle, we hope these survey responses will help you at the polls this Election Day and we look forward to working with candidates who support us on future legislation.
Our Advocacy Work in DC
In June 2024, we joined NFFE in DC to lobby for the passage of the Wildland Firefighter Paycheck Protection Act!
Along with a group of 25 wildland firefighters, we shared the experience of wildland families with over 30 Congressional offices, helped increase awareness and understanding, and built bridges for future work.
After the WFPPA was passed, we created a calculator to help fire familes understand how the pay changes might impact their budget.
