Into the Woods is a beloved Broadway masterpiece that intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tale classics, exploring the rewards and consequences of each character’s wishful quests: the Baker and his wife dream of having a child; Cinderella yearns to attend the King’s festival; Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk) hopes for a better life with his cow, Milky White; Rapunzel longs to see the world; and Little Red Ridinghood tends to her grandmother’s needs. When it is revealed that a neighboring Witch placed a curse on the Baker’s family leading to their infertility, a magical, bewildering journey into the woods unfolds and each character’s story becomes entangled. Ultimately, everyone’s wish is granted, but the repercussions of their actions return to haunt them with disastrous results revealing what truly happens after “happily ever after.”
