As a talented educator, you recognize and understand the process of identifying specific content knowledge and skills you want your students to master, selecting appropriate tools and resources to support instructional design & delivery, and implementing differentiated lessons that give 21st Century learning experiences that allow students to demonstrate mastery in a variety of ways. Virtual learning is not different, but there are additional factors to be considered.
When creating online learning experiences, educators must:
Identify the online tool(s) that will best support the needs of their students throughout the learning process, AND
Think about the pedagogy of online learning that is unique to that method of delivery.
This page gives you some resources to consider, both in terms of pedagogy and tools to potentially utilize that we hope will help you facilitate a positive online learning experience for you and your students. This is by no means an exhaustive list of resources. Rather, this is curated a core set of resources which you should feel free to move beyond as you build comfort facilitating learning in an online format.
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has put together a fantastic website to support teachers, students and parents during school closure, called Learning Keeps Going. It provides excellent ideas for educators to consider when shifting learning to a blended or fully online model. Their support page for teachers is available HERE.
Common Sense Media has also put together a comprehensive resource for teachers called Wide Open Schools. Feel free to check it out by clicking HERE.
Another valuable resource for educators, Teach from Home, create by Google and ultimately geared towards maximizing use of Google Apps for Education in an online learning setting is available HERE.
The tools listed below are in addition to our base Google apps platform - Docs, Slides, and Forms. Additional support in the use of these online tools can be provided by Keith Hannah - District Instructional Technology Facilitator, your building's IT-BIL, through the resources provided here, as well as through Kyte Learning courses in many cases. A schedule will also be added here soon where teachers can schedule 30 minute Zoom appointments for more in-depth virtual support that goes beyond what can easily be answered in an email.
