It is safe to say that everyone knows how to watch YouTube videos for entertainment, how-tos, and even academic content. There are some specfic functions in YouTube that can be beneficial for using video-based instruction with your students. Here, you will find several videos by YouTube expert (and Washingtonian) Patrick Green. More support videos are available on his YouTube Channel.
Also, for teachers of younger students, consider using Safe YouTube (see below) for a distraction-free viewing experience, free from comments or related videos.
EdPuzzle allows teachers to make any video their lesson, by adding adding multiple choice and free response questions within a YouTube video, video from other sources, and even self-made videos. To get started, go to edpuzzle.com and sign up with your Google credentials.
We have upgraded all fifeschools.com accounts to the premium features, so any teacher will have full access to the EdPuzzle features during our COVID-19 closure. If you have an existing EdPuzzle account, you should be automatically upgraded. If, when signing in, you are asked to verify your email account, just follow the steps to do so. You may not be prompted to do so, however.
YouTube Learning's Learn@Home resource page has YouTube resources curated by content area as well as 360 degree virtual field trips to explore.
Safe YouTube - Do you want to have a safe, distraction-free way of viewing YouTube videos? Safe YouTube offers a viewer that is free of comments (which are disabled for Fife School District Students) and related videos. You can access Safe YouTube HERE. To use, simply copy/paste the URL of the video from YouTube into Safe YouTube, and click on "Generate Link" to create a link to a distraction-free version of the video. This link may be shared to Google Classroom or directly with students via email or Google Docs.
