Students will learn both new and familiar music concepts, such as keeping a steady beat, instruments and their families, playing instruments, singing together as a group, simple rhythms, and basic music theory. Kindergarten is introduced to new instruments; learn to work and cooperate as a group to sing songs, play instruments, and play games; keep a steady beat; and prepare for music programs throughout the school year. First grade builds on these concepts by learning to read music, read and write more complicated rhythms, and play a wider variety of instruments. Second grade is introduced to playing the recorder, reading a wider variety of music, and continued education in music theory. Third grade is split up into three sections throughout the year: intensive recorder study, general music education, and concert preparation and band tryouts.
