Starting in 4th grade, students have the option to learn music through band by learning a wind instrument. These instruments include flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and baritone. In 5th grade, students may start to learn alto saxophone, and they may audition for bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, French horn, tuba, and percussion; percussion selection is based on students' elementary understanding of rhythms and music theory. All other wind instruments are learned in junior/senior high school. Any new band students can try out and audition for these instruments starting in the spring of their 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade years.
