Counselor for Students: A - Fe
Sue Trout has enjoyed serving the FHN Huskies as a school counselor since 2008. Before becoming a Husky, Sue was a high school counselor at Orion High School in Grandville. Sue is a graduate of Michigan State University in Communication Arts and Sciences (B.A.) and worked in sales and marketing before making the transition to teaching. She went on with her studies in Education at Grand Valley State and taught social studies at East Grand Rapids Middle and High Schools. Sue is also a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a degree in School Counseling (M.Ed.). Sue lives in Byron Center with her husband and are proud parents of two adult children. Sue enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family, friends and their dog!
Counselor for Students: Fi - Li
Justin Knoth joined the FHN counseling team in 2020. Prior to this he was a school counselor for 4 years with Lakewood Public Schools and before that taught Social Studies for 10 years at Kelloggsville Middle School. He is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with degrees in History (B.A.), Curriculum and Instruction (M.A.), and School Counseling (M.Ed.). Justin enjoys spending time with his wife Nicole, and their three children Ethan, Molly, and Trenton. He enjoys attending his children's extra-curricular activities, working out, and watching football.
Counselor for Students: Lo - Re
Angelina Coulson is the newest addition to the FHN counseling team. Before joining FHN, she spent a year as a counselor at Forest Hills Central and four years at City High Middle School. Angelina earned her B.A.A. in Family Studies from Central Michigan University and her M.Ed. in School Counseling from Grand Valley State University. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her husband, son, friends, and family.
Counselor for Students: Ri - Z
Kyle Perkins joined the FHN counseling team in 2022. Prior to this he was a counselor at Forest Hills Central High School for 7 years and previously taught math for 11 years in Indianapolis. He is a graduate of Anderson University with a degree in Mathematics Education (B.A.) and IUPUI with a degree in School Counseling (M.Ed). Kyle and his wife Jenna live in Forest Hills with their three boys Luke, Bennett and Oliver along with a goldendoodle named Ruby. He enjoys playing golf, watching sports, grilling on the patio, and not finishing house projects.
Social Worker
Matt Langlois has been the school social worker at FHN since 2020, and has worked in several other FHPS schools since 2008. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. and MSW). He lives in Grand Rapids with his wife Jamie, children Johanna, Madeline, and Troy (all will be either Northern Middle or High Huskies in 2023), and dog Diego. He enjoys travel, going to concerts of all kinds, and being a chauffeur for a multitude of his kids’ activities. Similar to the other counselors here, he can start and finish projects around the house, just not always in the same decade.
Kiona Murray joined FHN in 2025 as the Guidance Secretary. She is a proud FHN graduate and is thrilled to return to the community that helped shape her. Before joining Northern, Kiona worked at BDO USA, a tax firm in Grand Rapids, where she spent three years as an Administrative Assistant supporting the tax department.
Kiona and her partner Wesley live in Grand Rapids with their three children, Logan, Londyn, and Leighton, and their dog, Luca. Life at home is loud, fun, and full of personality. When she’s not helping students and staff at Northern, Kiona enjoys movie nights with her family, trying to keep up with her kids’ energy, and laughing through the beautiful chaos of everyday life.
Ellen Brown joined FHN as the registrar in 2022. She has a B.A. in Spanish education from Hope College, and she taught Spanish at Hamilton Middle School for two years before coming to Forest Hills. She has too many hobbies to count, and is just okay at most of them, but her favorites are skiing, mountain biking, and going on photography walks with her husband, Tyler.
