The SAT : The SAT is a three-hour reasoning test that measures developed mathematical and verbal reasoning abilities as well as writing skills related to successful performance in college. The SAT is given in April as part of the Michigan Merit Exam to all juniors. This test is required of all Juniors and there is no cost to take it at this time.
The American College Test (ACT) is a three-hour test measuring understanding and ability in English usage, mathematical usage, reading comprehension, science reasoning and an optional writing portion.
The Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Forest Hills Central currently offers 17 AP courses . At the end of the course, students have the option to take an exam consisting of essay and objective type questions. Many colleges award college credit or advanced standing when students achieve sufficiently high scores. Students should check the AP policy of their prospective institution.
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test - National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT-NMSQT) is recommended for juniors. This preliminary SAT test measures students' verbal and mathematical abilities. Sophomore students who have completed one year of geometry are also encouraged to take the test. The PSAT-NMSQT is designed to give students experience with the questions they will face on the SAT. If a student knows he/she will need the SAT as part of admissions requirements, taking the PSAT is an excellent idea. The PSAT-NMSQT is also used to determine National Merit Scholars, a very competitive academic award, that may enable recipients to get scholarships for college.
Forest Hills Academic Boosters Club (ABC) is proud to sponsor the ACT and SAT practice tests for all of our students. Test results are given within two weeks and both the answers and test booklets will be given back to students for studying purposes. Dates for these tests are typically in the early winter. Additional information will be communicated via FHC announcements.
