11th GRADE EDP curriculum and relevant information
During the first and second semesters counselors conduct junior conferences with all 11th graders. Junior conferences launch the college research process and prepare students for completing college applications during the fall of their senior year. In addition, students complete the Do What You Are assessment through Naviance. During junior conferences, students can expect to receive information on the following:
Update goal setting
Resume building
Postsecondary planning
Determine college admission requirements
Senior year classes brainstorm
Standardized testing
College Athletics if relevant (NCAA/NAIA)
Comprehensive college planning during junior year
Naviance Lessons - all juniors complete the Do What You Are inventory through Naviance as a part of their EDP. This assessment uses personality types similar to the Myers Briggs type indicators as a means to recommend careers and clusters that might be a match for students. Results of the assessment provide students with a four-part personality type that connects students to potential careers and college majors based upon their personal characteristics and preferred work environments. Through their results, students can research individual careers, determine which college majors are required for employment in these careers, and research which colleges offer the college majors to support this employment.
Students are also introduced to the SuperMatch college search tool through Naviance. Through this program, students can narrow their search criteria and find colleges that match their desired college experience and academic profile (GPA, SAT and/or ACT). Institutions matched with a student are given a “fit” score for students to better understand whether or not that institution aligns with their entered search criteria. Each college match generated indicates to what percentage the institution matches their search criteria and multiple schools can be compared to each other and saved to their profile for later exploration.
