General Information
5th and 6th Grade Procedures:
📞 If your student is or will be absent, please contact the school office. We also appreciate getting messages regarding this information on Remind. If you know about an appointment in advance, please let us know ASAP so we can get work/assignments ready. This will help your child stay on track.
🎺 Students now have instruments for band and Mr. Shumway is requiring weekly practice time and practice sheets to be returned on specific dates. The upcoming due date is listed on the bottom of my lesson plans (see Weekly Lesson Plan tab). Please remind your student to practice and turn these reports in on time.
📱 Elementary students should leave cell phones/personal devices in their backpack/locker during the school day. If they need to contact parents, they can do so from the school office (with permission from their classroom teacher). Apple watches, etc. can be used only to tell time and cannot be used to text/call during the school day. This includes at lunch and recess.
📚 We encourage parents/guardians to keep track of their students' grades on PowerSchool. If you need your PowerSchool information, please contact Mrs. Kylah Locken at the school office or via email at kylah.locken@fessenden.k12.nd.us. She can help you get set up.
👩🏻🏫 Eligibility checks will be done beginning in Week 3, and students must be passing all of their classes in order to participate in extracurricular activities. We also will be encouraging our 5th/6th graders to check their grades and also utilize their daily planners to stay organized. If a student gets behind in work or we start having some concerns, we may set up a planner arrangement (parent/guardian/teacher signature), but for the time being, we will see how the students self-manage (before we put that in place).
🎂 If students have a birthday during the school year (or would like to celebrate their half birthday if their actual birthday falls in the summer), they are welcome to bring a treat for their class (if they wish). Cupcakes/muffins are popular or if you choose to send something in a pan, please make sure it is cut into the appropriate amount of pieces before you send it (5th Grade currently has 19 students and 6th grade has 13). Thanks!
👟 Phy Ed Shoes (that are clean, not worn outside, and stay at school) are required for inside gym class (We are trying to keep our gym floor in good shape). If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know!
❄️As the weather gets colder, students will be expected to have appropriate outdoor gear (including a winter coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves). This is especially important if your student rides a school bus. Please make sure your child brings his/her outdoor gear to school every day.
If you have any questions regarding any of this information, please reach out to me. Thank you!
