Teachers should be adjusting their RLA block to accommodate. The recommendation is to have the following taught during the ELAR block during the times students are out of the classroom:
phonemic awareness
phonics
handwriting
spelling
fluency practice
When students return to the classroom, the RLA block components of
vocabulary
reading comprehension
writing
may add in additional fluency practice with grade level text
According to page 38 of the Texas Dyslexia Handbook, evidence-based dyslexia instruction must be implemented with fidelity.
For example, if a program’s fidelity statement includes the provision of instruction for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week but an LEA with a 4-day instructional week schedule provides the instruction for 1 hour a day, 4 days a week, the program could be considered as still being taught with fidelity as long as the scope and sequence of the program is not fundamentally altered.
