The purpose of documented deliberations at an ARDC meeting is to document that FAPE has been provided to the student. There is no legal requirement for deliberations/minutes at an ARDC meeting but the benefits of deliberations/minutes document parent participation and support the ARDC recommendations.
Deliberations/Minutes are not intended to take down word for word rather an overview of discussion points, parent concerns and that the committee addressed the concerns. Deliberations/Minutes provide an opportunity to clarify how progress will be noted and other points not documented in the ARD document.
The deliberations should include consideration of any parent concerns/request and reflect the districts response. The deliberations must be factual and clear. Incomplete statements are not best practice. Deliberations should be reviewed and agreed on by the ARD committee at the end of the meeting prior to ARD signatures.
