Screening is conducted to identify or predict students who may be at risk for poor learning outcomes. Universal screening assessments are typically brief, conducted with all students at a grade level, and followed by additional testing or short-term progress monitoring to corroborate students’ risk status.
In Ferris ISD, the Reading, Language and Math components of NWEA MAP are administered throughout the school year in grades K-10th. Students that score below the 21st percentile are then brought to the Campus Intervention Team. In addition to the universal screening tools, we will utilize multiple criteria to enable more accurate identification and appropriate placement of students for support. Data from benchmarks, student’s previous year STAAR scores, grade reports, attendance, discipline records, teacher observations, and language proficiency are analyzed by the Campus Intervention Team to develop targeted, individualized interventions to increase student growth and achievement.
