Freshmen Transition Summer Launch:
This course will assist students in preparing for high school and the skills needed to a successful STEAM High scholar. Students will become acclimated to the rigors and learning culture of high school and become part of a school culture where honors and advanced placement work are key components. Because of these components, students will find that course helpful in fully knowing how to be “STEAM Ready”. The three week course will be broken into the following areas of focus:
A): Advanced Placement bootcamp will be the first week and is designed for students who are taking an advanced placement (AP) course for the first time. It's designed to help students develop the skills needed to successfully complete a year in any advanced placement course. Students will engage in experiences designed to encourage teamwork, communication, organization, critical reading and writing as well as problem-solving. Peers will be actively engaged in activities and experiences designed to prepare students for the rigors of our most rigorous classes.
B): The second week will focus on a combination of language arts skills and mathematics skills. Students will review material from middle school as well as hone in on skills needed for success in these high school courses. Students will be exposed to critical thinking and problem solving skills and strategies in these content areas.
C): The third and final week will focus on student readiness skills often associated with what students need to be successful in high school and beyond. Students will work on and focus on organization, time management, team building, relationship building, and study skills, post-secondary plans and STEAM oriented enrichment activities. The key to a successful high school experience is knowing how to master your multiple talents in multiple ways. This week will be a great opportunity to build upon these areas.
