The Cordova High Engineering Academy is a Career Technical Education Pathway, specifically, the Manufacturing Sector: Product Innovation and Design Pathway.
The Engineering & Product Innovation Academy at Cordova High School offers a four-year, project-based pathway designed to develop students’ skills in design, engineering, and innovation. Through a hands-on, invention-focused curriculum, students learn to think critically, collaborate effectively, and solve real-world problems.
Course Sequence:
Grade 9: Introduction to Product Innovation & Design (Intro, A–G: Visual & Performing Arts – “f”)
Grades 10: Electronics & Robotics (Concentrator, A–G: College-Preparatory Elective – “g”)
Grades 11: Product Innovation & Design (Capstone, A–G: College-Preparatory Elective – “g”)
Advanced Engineering & Design Courses (Capstone, A–G: College-Preparatory Elective – “g”)
Throughout the pathway, students engage in increasingly complex projects that integrate design thinking, engineering principles, and modern fabrication techniques. Students gain experience using industry-relevant tools and technologies, including:
3D printing and laser cutting
Electronics and soldering
Coding and physical computing (Arduino, micro:bit)
Hand and power tools
A key component of the program is real-world application. Students collaborate with community partners and industry professionals to design and build solutions that address authentic needs. These experiences help students build technical skills, creativity, and confidence while exploring future career pathways. Whether students plan to pursue engineering or another field, this program provides a strong STEAM foundation and the opportunity to turn ideas into tangible products.
Teaching students to invent, design, and build products to help others.
