LIBRARY CARDS: All SES students may get a library card from the Franklin County Public Library. A form was included in your registration packet at the beginning of the year. If your child already has a card or would like a card, please email Mrs. Bruce at kathryn.bruce@fcstn.net

BOOKFAIR: The next bookfair will be October 19-23, 2026! Every dollar contributes to funds earned through the fair. With the average price of books being $15 for hardbound and $24 for graphic novels, this money will go a long way to purchase books, book sets, and necessary supplies to keep the library current, diverse, and supporting the curriculum needs of our students. Thank you!

LESSONS: In the library, we are learning to read and reading to learn. Students work with fiction books and non-fiction books, they learn to identify titles, authors, and subjects and where books they want to read are found on the shelves. Following the curriculum for each grade, lessons are developed to extend knowledge units, to expand upon close reading of text, to target specific reading skills, to practice discussing books read as a group and individually, and to generate interest in reading all genres. Each 45-minute class period includes a time for individual browsing, mini-lesson, and a book talk or story read-aloud. Students may only check out new books when they either return or renew their book from the previous week. Otherwise, they are assigned a book to read during the individual browsing time.
