I am available to provide short-term, one-on-one counseling and support for students experiencing emotional difficulties that interfere with their success in school. I work to help each child develop coping skills to deal more effectively with the problems they face. If a child continues to have difficulties, I will provide parents with information about appropriate community resources for long-term counseling. Parents or guardians may email Mrs. Hoskins directly to make a request for counseling.
Small Groups allow children to develop coping skills, a sense of belonging, and to realize that they are not alone in their concerns. Group topics may include:
*Social Skills *Executive Functioning Skills
*Friendship *Self-Confidence
*Self-Control *Anxiety
*Self-Regulation *and more!
Groups typically meet once a week for 30 minutes. Times for groups are coordinated with classroom teachers to minimize time away from core instruction.
School Based Mental Health
Franklin County Schools understands the importance of a successful education. Research shows that children who are struggling with emotional or behavioral issues often struggle in the classroom. School based mental health services provide an important piece of the puzzle as it relates to removing barriers to educational success. Participation in this program is voluntary and students must have the written consent of their parent/legal guardian before services begin. Students must also have insurance in order to have a therapist. An agency will provide outpatient treatment for referred students in Franklin County Schools. Outpatient treatment will be rendered to students whose mental health challenges impair school, family, and/or community functioning. This therapeutic intervention will be offered on-site at the student's assigned school as determined by school based administration with input from the agency. For additional information about this program at Royal, please contact Mrs. Hoskins.
