Student Vehicles/Parking

Driving to school and parking on school grounds is a privilege. Parking on the school campus is by permit only and distributed on a “first come-first served” basis only. A registration form is required to be signed by the student and parent; again see Mrs. Hicks. All vehicles must be registered and the permit properly displayed. Vehicles failing to display the proper permit are subject to towing at the owner’s expense. Once students arrive and park on campus they should immediately exit their vehicles and proceed to class. Students may not congregate in the parking lot(s) before or after school. Vehicles parked in unauthorized areas are subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

On-Campus Parking Regulations and Procedures

• Franklinton High School student parking is by permit only.

• Read, complete, and sign the Franklinton High School Student Parking Agreement.

• Parking Agreement form must be complete and signed in order to obtain a parking pass.

• All students applying for a parking pass will be required to provide proof of a valid NC driver’s license.

• All student vehicles must display a valid parking permit.

• All students who park a motor vehicle on the school campus must display the current hanging-tag permit. The tag must be hung from the inside rear view mirror, facing the front of the vehicle. Students who fail to properly display the tag may have their parking privileges suspended or their tags revoked

• Only one tag will be issued per student. Students may register up to two of their family vehicles. The tag may be moved from one registered family vehicle to another, but may NOT be sold, given, or loaned to another student for his or her use. Parking privileges may be suspended or revoked for misuse of the parking tag.

• Students shall inform the office immediately of any changes in vehicle or license plate.

• All vehicles must park in assigned parking area. Failure to comply with this rule will result in suspension of parking privileges.

• Vehicles parked on campus without a parking permit may be towed at the owner’s or student’s expense.

• Lost parking tags will be replaced for a $10 fee. Report losses to the office.

• Drivers must be courteous at all times. Loud noise and music coming from vehicles is prohibited at all times while on the school campus.

• The safe operation of motor vehicles is required. Vehicles must not travel in excess of 10 miles per hour. Seat belts are required for driver and all passengers.

• Loitering in the parking lot is prohibited. Students should lock their cars and leave the parking lot immediately upon arriving at school. Likewise, in the afternoon, students are prohibited from loitering in the parking area.

• Offensive or inappropriate writing, decals, stickers, plates, etc. must be removed.

• Students are not allowed in the student parking area during school hours without permission from administration.

• Excessive tardiness to school will result in a loss of parking privileges.

• Leaving campus without permission or transporting another student off campus without permission will result in a loss of parking privileges.

• The student parking area will be monitored at times throughout the day; however, the school system is not responsible for damages to or theft from vehicles. Students are cautioned NOT to leave valuables in their vehicles. Parked vehicles should be left with windows closed and doors locked.

• As directed by NC General Statute 114C-407, Franklin County School Board Policy 4320 prohibits the possession and/or use of tobacco products on campus. Students may not use or possess any tobacco products in their vehicles at any time while on the school campus.

• Franklin County School Board Policy 6325 – Student Parking states “Parking on school grounds is a privilege and not a right. Parking privileges may be revoked for violating parking rules or as a consequence for violating student behavior board policies or school standards. The school retains authority to patrol student parking lots at any time without consent or notice. The interior of a student’s motor vehicle parked on the school premises may be searched if a school official has reasonable suspicion to believe that illegal, unauthorized or contraband items are contained inside.”

• Disregard of parking rules and regulations may result in a loss of parking privileges and are subject to other disciplinary actions.
