Welcome from Student Services

The counseling department would like to welcome each of you to Franklinton High School.  We look forward to working with you and getting to know each of you. Our goal is to help you succeed in high school and provide guidance to help you navigate through high school and college or a career. Our doors remain open, so please feel free to stop by if you need assistance.

All 9th grade students will see Ms. Howell as your primary counselor.  All 10th grade students will see Mrs. Smith as your primary counselor.  11th & 12th grade students with last names A-J will see Ms. Milutinovic as your primary counselor.  11th & 12th grade students with last names K-Z will see Mrs. Parks as your primary counselor.  You will work with your primary counselor on issues relating to scheduling, career planning, counseling concerns, etc. If you need immediate assistance while your primary counselor is out, the counselor who is present will gladly work with you.

Guidance Services

FHS offers the services of four counselors.  They are available to students who need assistance in many areas including counseling services, peer mediation, scheduling, college and job opportunities, and scholarship information.  All students are encouraged to make at least one appointment per year with a counselor to discuss credits earned and graduation requirements. Appointments with a counselor may be made before and after school, and during lunch.  For all other times, a student must have a pass from the subject teacher. A student may not initiate an absence from class to see a counselor without permission from the classroom teacher.

Dropping and Adding Courses

There is a scheduled drop/add period during the summer months prior to the opening of school during which students may adjust their schedules.  There will be a second drop/add period prior to the start of the second semester. Once school begins, the only drop/add process is for those students that do not have a schedule, have an incomplete schedule, are enrolled in a class for which he/she has already received credit, or if enrolled in a class for which he/she does not meet the prerequisite. Students may not drop an EOC course after the first ten days of each semester, regardless of the reason for the request.
