Independent Reading Projects
Introduction
Welcome to your Independent Reading Project Guide! On this website you will find everything you need to complete an independent reading project (aka IRP) for ELA class.
This year, you will be completing THREE Independent Reading Projects for 25% of your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter ELA grade. Each of your projects will be over a self-selected novel (150+ pages) that has been approved by Miss Poe. You will need to pick out a project from the "All Projects" page of this website.
What's New this Year?
2024 Updates:
Plagiarism checks will be done for all aspects of projects. Students who are caught using plagiarism/AI will face disciplinary action AND will have to complete all further projects on paper.
8th Grade: You will complete two independent reading projects and craft your own Children's Book for the 4th quarter Family Reading Night that will take the place of your third IRP.
How to look for a book:
Think of books you have read and liked in the past.
Ask classmates, teachers, parents, siblings, etc. for recommendations.
Perform a google search for books you might like using key words, themes, genres, etc.
Consider joining the Library Book Club to hear about the books your classmates are reading.
Consider participating in the Mark Twain/Truman Book Award Program.
You cannot use a book you have already read, or a book we are reading together in class!
Tentative Due Dates
Use the calendar to the right to find start date and end dates of each project, as well as, the approval forms. On this google calendar, you will also find Family Reading Night Dates, and other "reading" related dates.
Independent Reading Projects will be due around midterm of quarters 2-4.
