Dear CTE and Technology/Engineering Ed Directors,

As the 2023-2024 academic year approaches, I want to send a reminder about the hybrid (online synchronous and asynchronous)  courses that UMES at BMI is offering to satisfy requirements for PTE Certification and the WBL Endorsement. There is some important information about the WBL endorsement included later in this email.  If you have beginning of the year professional development days that I can attend (in person or virtual) to answer teachers’ questions about our courses and program offerings, please let me know. I’d be happy to participate if able.

We are offering courses this fall for PTE certification (undergrad and graduate level options), the MSDE Work-Based Learning endorsement (undergrad and graduate level options), and the Master of Education in CTE degree. All of our courses are being taught in a hybrid (online synchronous and asynchronous) format so that we can serve teachers from every school system in Maryland. The only course that teachers must show up to BMI to complete, per COMAR regulations, is a WBL course I discuss later in this email. We have been able to get the low in-state tuition rate for teachers (regardless of where they live) as long as they are teaching in a Maryland public school system. This equals $900 per 3 credit undergrad course or $1,308 per 3 credit grad class. Please remind your teachers not to wait until the last minute to contact us about enrolling in courses.

Students interested in undergrad certification and undergrad WBL courses should contact Marianne Hollerbach before applying (mhollerbach@umes.edu). Students interested in graduate certification courses, the graduate level WBL endorsement, or the master’s degree should contact JoAnn Eliff (jenorris@umes.edu) before applying. The WBL grad courses can be applied toward the elective courses for the master’s degree. Marianne and JoAnne will help to ensure students apply to the correct program based on their needs.
