Updates from Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School
Here are a few updates and reminders that are middle school specific:
Late buses begin on Monday, September 9th. Students who stay for a club or an after school activity may use the late bus. The late bus departs the secondary campus at 4:45 PM. Please use this link to the late buses to best determine the stop closest to your home. There are 16 buses for the regular runs, but the late bus runs are condensed to 4 buses. Your normal stop may not be an option on the late bus runs.
If a student is staying after school, they must be with a teacher, staff member, coach or club leader. Students cannot remain on campus if they are unsupervised.
Here are some of our afterschool clubs...more to come as we find sponsors for clubs and activities.
We have another exciting week planned for Pack this week.
Monday - Students will have a dialogue with each other around this question: “It may only be 10 AM…but what is something that made you happy or brought you joy today? It can be the weather, seeing a friend, a meal you enjoyed, a song you liked, a class you enjoyed etc.”
Tuesday - We will focus on IB Learner Profile Traits. Students will have a lesson on Open-Mindedness and Communication. Here’s an example of the sixth grade slide deck.
Wednesday - We will continue the book The Seventh Most Important Thing reading Chapters 7-8, and answer the prompt: “Arthur is given a second chance. Share a time when you were given a second chance or gave someone else a second chance.”
Thursday - We will focus on IB Learner Profile Traits: specifically Open-Mindedness. Here’s an example of the sixth grade slide deck.
Friday - Fun Friday!
We look forward to a great week in Pack!

Hi 6th grade Families!
It was another busy week here at Mary Ellen Henderson! Our 6th graders are getting more and more comfortable with our campus and it's amazing to see. Whether its class transitions, heading to and from recess, or a new social setting, they really are doing an amazing job.
Speaking of class transitions, today (friday) all of our students transitioned to a new Flex class. As a reminder, our 6th Grade Flex Block is Block 6. Starting today our students spend half of that time in Academic Advising and half in their Flex class. Our first quarter of Flex is about Middle School Strategies and Executive Functioning. Ask your student about their Flex!
With that, we hope you have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing our newest Huskies next week!
Sincerely,
Rob Carey
6th Grade Administrator
Good Afternoon,
Today, we conducted our first lockdown drill of the school year. We announced it as a drill and reassured students that there was no actual threat, emphasizing the importance of practicing our response in case of a real emergency. Students followed the "Avoid, Deny, and Defend" protocol, which we have been sharing on Schoology in preparation for today.
This week, during PE classes, students heard from administrators, counselors, and school resource officers. We discussed topics such as harassment, bullying, and protected classes, reinforcing the expectations we have for creating a welcoming community for all students. They were also informed on how to report any negative behavior they might experience or witness in the building and the support process available to them.
I want to give a big shout-out to our athletes as fall sports are now in full swing! We've been hearing great things about the successes our students are experiencing in their games, matches, and meets. We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes and wish them continued success throughout the season.
Happy Friday!
Best regards,
Adam White
7th and 8th Grade Administrator
