WON STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
The Meridian Varsity Golf Team has made history, capturing their first-ever VHSL Class 3 State Championship at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg, VA. The Mustangs posted a remarkable team score of 297, outpacing second-place Western Albemarle by five strokes to secure the title.
Seniors Noah Peng, Henry Brown, and Alex Way led the charge, with Noah and Alex earning 3rd and 4th place individual honors, shooting impressive rounds of 70 and 72, respectively.
The team’s resilience shone through in tough conditions, with temperatures in the mid-40s and rain throughout the morning. As the weather improved, so did the Mustangs’ performance, with Junior Atticus Kim, Sophomore Drew Fishel, and Freshman Charles Griffith delivering clutch performances on the back nine to lock in the victory.
This momentous win not only highlights the team’s talent but also marks a new chapter for Meridian Golf, as they bring home their first state championship. Congratulations to the Mustangs on this historic achievement!
The girls golf team has a participant in this week’s Region Golf Zone Qualifier , sophomore Era Ingles-Nela! The qualifier is at Twin Lakes golf course and Era had to qualify with her outstanding regular season! Please come out and show support for Era as she looks to keep her amazing run going!

Meridian Field Hockey visited district rivals Kettle Run Tuesday night for the last division match up before postseason begins. The varsity match up proved to be challenging, but Meridian dominated on the field and got on the board with only two minutes to spare in the first quarter. After a number of passes in and out of the circle, senior Lila Deering picked up a pass and sent it into the circle, where senior Emily Borum tapped it to senior Delaney Flanagan, who finished off to score. Midfielders kept the ball in play, with great support from defense, especially junior Sara Meade who relentlessly transferred the ball throughout the game to give the Mustangs the advantage.
Sophomore Claire Hartenstein also stepped up as right back, helping to keep Kettle Run out of the goal and taking free hits quickly to give Meridian momentum.
The second goal came early in the fourth quarter. After making it down the field quickly, senior Gia Khan took a free hit to find senior Lucy Hladky at the top of the circle, who passed it into senior Lila Deering and found the goal.
With a few more challenges and the defensive unit stepping up on corners, Meridian finished the game 2-0.
In the final game of the regular season, the Mustangs defeated Annandale 2-0, cementing their status as the top seed in the Region. With a final record of 13-2-1, the Mustangs will get a first round bye before hosting a playoff game on Wednesday, October 30th. With a win, the Mustangs would advance to the cross bracket game on Tuesday, November 5th with the region final being on Thursday, November 7th. All region games will be at home. The varsity boy's volleyball team gave nationally-ranked McLean a real run for their money in their match on October 14! The Mustang squad played with loads of heart and grit, taking the lead late in the second set and forcing McLean to take a timeout to try to regroup before barely winning the set 25-22. (McLean is ranked 10th in the country and has not lost a single set in their last 29 matches.) This meeting was the third between the two teams this season and, although the Mustangs lost the match, it was their best performance against McLean and highlighted how much they've improved this season and how cohesive they've become as a team.
On Thursday, the boys came up just short again, falling to 6A power Langley in 5 sets. With two more short road trips left, the Mustangs could use some support as they have a very good chance to get into the State Playoffs. Take the short trip to McLean and down route 7 to Marshall to support the boys!
