Students may be walking to Starbucks or Tropical Smoothie, singing karaoke, playing Wiffle Ball out on the field, watching a movie or simply reading a book with some hot chocolate.
Students love reward days! Due to the extended time needed for these experiences, we run a modified bell schedule on that day. Please check it out. Ms. Johnson’s Flex class embarked on an exciting journey through the rich history of myths, legends, and folktales. Students explored the cultural significance of these timeless stories, learning about how they shaped societies and passed down moral lessons. They then applied this knowledge by creating their own original legends, weaving imaginative tales rooted in tradition. Using AI image generators, the students transformed their stories into visually captivating books, merging creativity with technology. Two outstanding examples of this innovative project include "Why Chickens Can’t Fly" and "How Butterflies Got Their Colors," which highlight the students’ impressive storytelling and artistic talents. This project not only enhanced their understanding of literary traditions but also gave them the opportunity to express their own unique voices through modern tools.

Week of October 21, 2024
We have another exciting week planned for Pack this week! October is Bullying Prevention Month.
Monday - Students will have a dialogue with each other around this question: “If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?” Dialogue circles are a form of restorative practices and promote communication skills, relationship building, and are a way for students and staff to connect on interests and preferences.
Tuesday - On Tuesday, we will learn about bullying prevention. We will review what bullying is, the types of bullying, and review the “Stop Strategy” for bullying. We will also review how to seek help for bullying as well as how to report bullying. Linked here is an example of the 7th grade slide deck.
Wednesday - One book Wednesday! We will continue to read chapter 18 in The Seventh Most Important Thing.
We look forward to another great week!
Hi 6th Grade families,
Happy week nine of school! As we progress through the year, we will continue to use this space in the newsletter to provide the broader MEHMS community with a sneak peak into the every day life of a Husky.
This weeks observations come from a Science 6 class. Aside from Mr. Pickering’s dad joke cameo, students are working through a Matter Unit with some of the most creative and fun assignments. Student engagement is high, collaboration is evident, and the energy is amazing. Ask your student about their Periodic Table project!
With that, a reminder that next week is the end of the quarter. If you are available, sign up for conferences, so our teachers can share all the amazingness that we see on a daily basis!
Sincerely,
Rob Carey

7th and 8th grade families,
I want to share some of the exciting experiences I had in classrooms this week. During Flex, I joined the strategy games session and competed against students in Connect 4. I managed to win two games before being knocked out, and it was great to see students having fun while applying strategic thinking across various games.
In theatre, I had the opportunity to be a judge as students pitched their ideas for musical production companies. Their creativity was impressive, as they came up with unique company names, selected performance locations, and designed their own merchandise and menus.
Later, in a World History class, I took on the role of Lord White from Assyria as students presented products inspired by ideas, materials, or inventions from ancient civilizations.
In every setting, I was amazed by the students' creativity, passion, and engagement. It was wonderful to see them take ownership of their learning and bring their ideas to life. Whether they were strategizing in games, envisioning new theatre ventures, or exploring historical innovations, the students displayed remarkable critical thinking and collaboration skills. It’s always inspiring to be part of these activities and witness firsthand how students connect their knowledge to real-world scenarios in such meaningful ways.
