Congratulations to all our hard working students who were honored as our Students of the Month!

Dear Crimson

Dear Crimson,

Ever since the beginning of the school year I have been having trouble making friends in my class. I do not relate to most of them.  What can I do to have some friends in my class?

From,

A lonely 4th grader

Dear lonely 4th grader,

I know making friends can be really hard. Especially when you do not like the same things. My advice would be to keep talking to different people each day. Maybe you will find something you and someone else both like. Make sure you are always trying to talk to different people. Maybe if you can sit at different spots at the lunch table and try talking to people you don't sit with a lot. Just remember just because you are not making any friends doesn't mean people do not like you.

 Upcoming Events in the Library

By:Sebastian Reiners

I spoke with Mrs. Boyd about some upcoming events in the library. First, she stated that the student council will be surveying the students on some new books they want in the library. She also said that February first is World Read Aloud Day. She said she was excited because on World Read Aloud Day the McIntosh swim team will greet us at the door in the morning and then they will read a story to each classroom. Also on February first they are going to announce the new book for One School One Book. If you are in Kindergarten or First grade you are lucky that you get to vote for the best kid’s picture book for Georgia.  These are just some of the great things that Mrs. Boyd has planned for the next few weeks in the media center!

This month in technology

by: Sydney Mynatt

Technology is always a fun class to go to where we learn tons of new things we can use on our computers!  This month in 2nd grade, the students learned how to program a clock on Scratch. In 4th grade, the students  programmed characters to dance. This just sounds like so much fun. Doing activities like this at an early age allows children to understand the concept of trial and error, which is a fairly important concept in the world of now. It is truly amazing that children get to learn stuff like this in school. It really shows how far technology has come. I cannot wait to see what exciting activities we get to partake in next month.

New Playground Equipment!

Boosterthon Update!!

Boosterthon is the fundraising activity for our school. This year we did a fun run!!!  However, because it was raining we did a glow run, which was indoors. Boosterthon is one of my favorite activities to do because it first of all helps our school and it's fun. Do you like to help your school, if so you would love this fundraiser. This fundraiser raised money so we can get better playground equipment. I don't know about you but I love recess, but to be honest the equipment is not great, but with the new equipment it could be really good.  Our PTO says that the new equipment has been ordered and we are excited for it to be installed and ready for recess this spring!

Martin Luther King, Jr.

by: Kai Otsuki

MLK day is a national holiday. We celebrate MLK day which stands for Martin Luther King. We get a break for one day. Martin Luther King was an American preacher, humanitarian and activist. His role was in the African American Civil rights Movement. He never encouraged violence during any of his protests,sit-ins and boycotts. Martin was born January 15th 1929 at Atlanta Georgia at 12 pm. Martin had siblings Willie Christine King and Alfred Daniel Williams King. Martin was so smart he passed 9th and 12th grade and he was officially a minister and activist. On December 1st  1905  Rosa Park was arrested because she refused to give off her seat to a white American. The court decided Racial segregation in transportation is unconstitutional. 60+ activists and ministers had a meeting in S.C.L.C. Back in the time Birmingham AL was the most segregated city in America. For example Police dogs biting black peoples hands and being wet by a police officer using hoses. On August 28 1963 over 250,000 gathered at the national Washington D.C to demand justice and equality. He died in Tennessee. He got assassinated by a gunshot then fell off its balcony    Then he did the speech. It says.. “I have a dream, that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meanings of its”. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal,” I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.’ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama with its vicious racists, withs its governor.  having his lips dripping with words of “interposition” and “nullification” – one day right there in  Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands. I have a dream today!  I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain. and the crooked places will be made. This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the south with. With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountains of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day. And this will be the day– this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning. And if America is too great to be a nation, this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.
