In Music Classes throughout May, all students K-5 will continue to develop rhythm and pitch reading skills through singing and instrumental performance. K-1 students will enjoy hands-on time with a new instrument each music class. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade will use a variety of digital tools to perform, create, and notate music. 4th/5th grade students have begun a piano unit that will conclude with a composition project. 5th grade students are rehearsing musical selections for their promotion ceremony.

LOWER PRIMARY CHORUS (K/1) NEWS: CONGRATULATIONS to all Lower Primary Chorus members for an outstanding concert at VPE Celebrate the Arts Night. LP chorus rehearsals have ended for the current school year. Mrs. Bishop looks forward to singing with you again next year!
UPPER PRIMARY CHORUS (2/3) NEWS: The Upper Primary Chorus is excited to present their Spring Program on Thursday, May 5 at 6:30pm in the VPE gym. This performance is open to the public. We hope you can join us!
INTERMEDIATE CHORUS (4/5) NEWS: Our Spring Sing sessions have ended for the current school year. Mrs. Bishop looks forward to singing with 4th graders again next year! 5th grade singers will be greatly missed! Please keep music in your schedule in middle school! Never stop making music!!!

2021 FCPS Elementary Honors Chorus
Mrs. Bishop is excited to share the 2021 FCPS Elementary Honors Chorus Virtual Concert Video! Normally this event is an in-person rehearsal day and concert. This year the entire event was held virtually. We congratulate our talented 5th grade Chorus members who represented VPE Chorus in this event! Congratulations: Abi B., Lucy B., Julia B, Patty D., Lily Claire M., E.J. P. and Caleb S.!! Your hard work in extra rehearsals for the event was certainly worth it!
Chorus Sing-At-Home students are proud to present our spring performance video, "What a Wonderful World". Students in Upper Primary and Intermediate Chorus worked to submit videos for this performance. Mrs. Bishop is so proud of each chorus member who sang via zoom each week throughout the 2020-2021 school year!

In 4th grade, all of you talented musicians have the opportunity to sign-up for the VPE 4th grade Orchestra! Orchestra meets during music class. So, Orchestra members will go to Orchestra with Mr. McWhorter instead of music class with Mrs. Bishop.

Meet the teacher...Mrs. Bishop
Mrs. Bishop with her daughter, Anna and her husband, Dee.

Mrs. Johnnie Bishop is a National Board Certified Music Teacher in the area of Early Middle Childhood Music. Additionally, she holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from Murray State University. She was recently honored to be selected as the 2020 Kentucky Music Educators Association Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Bishop is in her 9th year as the music teacher and choir director at Veterans Park Elementary School. Prior to teaching music at VPE, she was the band director at Southern Middle School (Lexington, KY FCPS), Lone Oak Middle School (Paducah, KY), Union City Intermediate School and Middle School (Union City, TN) and Lauderdale Middle School (Ripley, TN). Mrs. Bishop's favorite hobbies are playing and listening to music, cooking, spending time with her family and playing with the family dog, Lily.
Chorus rehearsals for the 2022-23 school year will begin after Labor Day! Mrs. Bishop will send home a paper copy of the chorus sign-up/ chorus t-shirt order form home with students in August. If you have any questions, please email her at johnnie.bishop@fayette.kyschools.us
