SpyCoast Equine Farm Trip September 2024
Video by Semaj Harris.
Students in the 8th and 9th grade took a trip with the Social Studies Department to the Kentucky State Capitol. While there, they got to meet Lieutenant Governor Coleman.
Our TLC Leadership class had been thinking of how they could help in this world; they wanted to support groups of people who needed support, and they felt like everyone had a place on earth and that we all should be given love no matter what. So, our school had a Hygiene Drive where all the students competed against each other in their advisory classes. Whichever Advisory class had the most donations were the ones who got to take those donations to the Light House. One of the students from our leadership groups said we should get a prize for helping people, but I think we should just help one another because we can. We believe that we all are family and family sticks together. Overall, the Hygiene Drive was a big success!
JOB CORPS FIELD TRIP TO SIMPSONVILLE:
On December 5th, Ms. Alice Goldstein gave a talk to about 40 students in the library. Her book Ordinary People, Turbulent Times was part of what she spoke with students about. She also conducted a Q&A session with the group about what they knew and wanted to know about the Holocaust and how to be an "upstander". What an incredible experience! We are so grateful that Ms. Goldstein shared her story and spent her time with us.

Students from Mr. Smith's Spanish classes participated in dialogue and discussion, concerning biases and diversity and equity in FCPS schools. Students were invited to provide insight and advice about how to address these issues in education, as well as listen and interact with local politicians and educators.
Kuzo (11th) said, "It was an interesting and fun experience. Getting to see a bunch of different people from different cultures was great insight on different student perspectives."
On March 23rd, the Mayor of Lexington, Linda Gorton, came by TLC and spoke to our seniors about different job opportunities in the local government. It was an incredible experience for all who were able to attend!
