Welcome to the 2023 STARTALK summer camp!
During their time at camp, our students will delve into the captivating world of habitats found in both North and South China. From the towering mountains to the lush rainforests, they will embark on a journey of discovery, uncovering the diverse ecosystems that make up this fascinating region.
In our cooking classes, our little chefs had a blast learning the art of Chinese noodle making. They discovered the importance of precise measurements, uncovering the secrets behind creating the perfect dough.
Day 2
On our second day of camp, students learned about the ingredients for the perfect noodle sauce. They shared what ingredients they liked and what ingredients they wanted to include in their sauce. Students practiced the art of using chopsticks while enjoying their delicious noodles.
We continued to learn about South and North China so that they could describe these habitats in China while also learning direction words, which will be useful next week when they begin coding drones for flight.
Day 3
On our third day of camp, your children had an incredible day of learning and fun! They learned to describe habitats based on rainfall and temperature, made their own noodles in cooking class, and practiced direction words for flying drones.
Day 4
Today was market day! Students have been earning Yuan in their classes and today they had the opportunity to spend their money at the market. Students also built their habitat dioramas.
Day 5
Today students learned about unique animals in North and South China. They also discovered the impact of yeast on dough during cooking class, preparing them for making delicious steamed dumplings later in the week.
Day 6
Today students were learning to describe animals that live in north and south China. They recreated some of the animals with playdough and added them to their habitats. In cooking class, they learned the different ways to fold the the dough for their dumplings tomorrow.
Day 7
Today, in cooking class, students made dumplings from scratch. Afterwards they were able to eat their delicious creations. They were also able to fly their drones. What a fun day!
Day 8
Today students showed their problem solving skills as they programmed their drones making them land on specific landing spots. They also had the opportunity to go to the market a purchase items using the Yuan they had earned in class. Lastly, students built their favorite animals using Legos and they utilized the Stop Motion app to bring their Lego creations to life in short videos. We are looking forward for this last week of camp. More exciting adventures await!
Day 9
This week students are learning how to make jiao zi (fried dumplings). They experimented adding beats and spinach juice to make the dough of different colors. Students have also been learning more about their favorite animals from north and south China so that they can describe them by their color, size, where they live and what they eat.
Day 10
In today's cooking class, your children delved deeper into Chinese cuisine by focusing on the art of making jiao zi, delicious Chinese dumplings. They eagerly learned how to prepare the flavorful filling and honed their skills in the intricate folding and pinching technique, creating beautiful and delectable dumplings. Their enthusiasm in the cooking class was infectious!
Additionally, our campers continued their exploration of north and south China with their habitat diorama project. They dedicated their time to enhancing their dioramas, carefully crafting detailed environments and classifying their animals as either plant or animal eaters.
Day 11
Today marked another day of fun-filled activities and valuable learning opportunities for our students. We were thrilled to witness the culmination of their hard work as they confidently presented their knowledge about habitats in north and south China, along with the fascinating animals that inhabit those regions.
Additionally, students continued to explore with the drones, mastering intricate tricks and maneuvers that showcased their growing expertise.
In the cooking class, students had the delightful opportunity to make jiao zi from scratch putting together what they had learned in previous days.
