FOURTH GRADE BAND STUDENTS will have to see Ms. Barker at the beginning of the school to try different instruments, and receive a recommendation from Mrs. Barker as to which instruments will best suit the student’s physical characteristics. After parents receive a recommendation from Ms. Barker, instruments can be purchased or rented. “Standard of Excellence, Book 1,” will have to be purchased from a local music store. Those instruments needing reeds, will have to begin the year with 10 – size 2 ½ reeds. Trumpet, Trombone, and French horn players will need a mouthpiece brush and tuning slide grease. Trumpet players need a bottle of valve oil. Trombone players need a bottle of slide oil. French horn players need a bottle of rotor oil. A folding music stand is required for home practice.
FIFTH GRADE BAND STUDENTS will need – “Measures of Success,” Book 1, for their instrument. Percussion players will need to get the Combined Percussion book. Those instruments needing reeds, will have to begin the year with 10- size 2 ½ reeds for their instrument. Trumpet, Trombone, and French horn players should have a mouthpiece brush, and tuning slide grease. Trumpet players will need a bottle of valve oil. Trombone players will need a bottle of slide oil. French horn players will need a bottle of rotor oil. A folding music stand is needed for home practice.
ELEMENTARY BAND MAJORS will need both “Standard of Excellence,” Book 1, and “Measures of Success,” Book 1, along with supplies required for the general band class. Majors are required to have a stand and metronome/tuner for home practice.
BAND MINORS – grade 6-8 will need: “Accent on Achievement", Book 2.. Those instruments needing reeds will have to begin the year with 10 – size 3 reeds for their instrument. A metronome and tuner or a metronome/tuner combination are required. Trumpet, Trombone, and French horn players should have a mouthpiece brush, and tuning slide grease. Trumpet players will need a bottle of valve oil. Trombone players will need a bottle of slide oil. French horn players will need a bottle of rotor oil. A folding music stand is required for home practice.
BAND MAJORS – grade 6-8 will need: "Accent on Achievement", Book 2, and Foundations for Superior Performance,” by Richard Williams & Jeff King. A metronome and tuner or a metronome/tuner combination should be purchased for home practice. Those instruments needing reeds, they will need to begin the year with 10 – size 3 reeds for their instrument. Rovner ligatures are preferred for clarinet and saxophone players. Premiere mouthpieces by Hite are preferred for clarinet players. Trumpet, Trombone, and French horn players should have a mouthpiece brush and tuning slide grease. Trumpet players will need a bottle of valve oil. Trombone players will need a bottle of slide oil. French horn players will need a bottle of rotor oil. A folding music stand and metronome/tuner is required for home practice.
BAND FOLDERS WITH MUSIC WILL BE ISSUED TO ALL STUDENTS. THESE SHOULD BE CHECKED PERIODICALLY FOR CALENDARS AND COMMUNICATION FROM THE DIRECTOR. ALL BAND STUDENTS/PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SIGN UP FOR REMIND. THIS IS ONE OF MY PRIMARY WAYS TO COMMUNICATE. DIRECTIONS ARE ON THE SCAPA BAND WEBSITE. A COPY WILL ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE BAND FOLDER.
