7th Grade Computer Applications for Music/Music Technology
Teacher: Ms. Barker
The purpose of this course is to teach the elements and principles of music using technology. Students will be involved in analyzing and critiquing music, composing, learning research techniques and making presentations on music and musicians.
The Projects will be selected from the following:
Stationary- Students will design and create a Google Doc stationary that may be used over and over again to correspond with friends, family, or any other individual or business. They will then write one letter using the Google Doc.
Critics Corner- We will use music vocabulary and elements to help us analyze select music. Music critiques will then be written.
Form Mapping- Students will study musical form: Sonata-Allegro form, 32 Bar Song Form, Chorus Format, and Theme & Variations
Musical Eras Google Slides- Students will research musical eras, composers, music of the time periods and historical facts for each era. They will cite all their resources in the correct format, and create Google slide presentations with the information they have gathered.
The Blues- Students will use the program Band-in-a-Box to compose music using the 12 bar blues form. Students will create 5 verses of lyrics to accompany the music they have composed.
Composer Tribute- Students will research selected composers and will present this information along with a creative tribute to that composer. If they choose a composer who is still living, they may write letters to them to gather more information.
Personal Web Page- Students will build web pages that may be used to offer a product or service.
Assignments will all be posted and submitted by students on CANVAS

60% class work, projects
20% assessment
10% homework assignments
10% daily grade- attitude, work ethic
Excused absences will be allowed time to make up missed work
This class is offered first, second, third and fourth quarter during 3rd hour from 10:08-10:54 each day in the small computer lab, room 242 for in person instruction.
