Welcome to Lexington and the KCM Conference!

Desmos is a free, interactive online graphing calculator that will be embedded in our new online KPREP tests this year. During this session, we will discuss best practices for familiarizing your students with Desmos, as well as how you can integrate Desmos Classroom Activities into your curriculum. Classroom Activities provide student evidence of their understanding in real time; teachers can use this immediate feedback for productive discussion.

We will experience Desmos calculators and activities from the student and teacher perspective, learn how to create a Desmos activity, and view some new features that encompass the 5 Practices for Effective Inquiry-oriented Classrooms. This session will be differentiated for beginners to those with some experience.

Attendees will learn how to use Desmos with intention and purpose, discover all the lessons and activities already embedded online, and view the immediate formative assessment feedback they get as a teacher. They will be provided with Classroom Activity Lists that correlate the most popular Desmos activities by topics in Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. We will also touch on the increased use of Desmos in book software and the future online ACT and SAT tests.

This session will align this effective technology tool with the Five Essential Elements of Mathematics Programs and the Eight Mathematical Learning and Teaching Practices.
