Dear FCPS Students, Parents, and Staff,
We are writing to share important updates regarding the Kentucky Dual Credit Scholarship (DCS) program for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year.
The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) recently notified school districts that the General Assembly biennial budget for 2026-2028 does not include enough funding to maintain previous scholarship levels. To ensure that funds remain available for all participating students across the state, KHEAA has adjusted the scholarship eligibility limits.
The state scholarship will now only cover the following:
General Education Courses:
For students in grades 11 and 12, the scholarship will pay for one (1) course per year.
Examples: College Algebra, English 101, History 109
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Courses:
For students in grades 9 through 12, the scholarship will pay for up to two (2) courses per year.
Examples: Allied Health, Computer Literacy; Welding
If you, or your student(s), have already requested or are enrolled in more than one General Education dual credit course for the 2026-2027 school year, please be aware that only one of those courses will be covered by the state scholarship.
Next Steps for Students/Families:
Review your schedule:
Identify if you are enrolled in multiple General Education dual credit courses.
Decide on a path forward:
Families will be responsible for paying the tuition costs for any additional General Education courses beyond the one covered by the scholarship.
FCPS Free/Reduced Lunch students do qualify for one additional course paid for by the FCPS Board of Education.
Adjust your schedule:
If you do not wish to pay out-of-pocket, please contact your school counselor as soon as possible to adjust your course requests or schedule.
CTE Courses:
If you are enrolled in CTE dual credit courses, you may still receive funding for up to two courses under the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship/DCS guidelines.
The state budget appropriations are the same for both the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years. KHEAA will reevaluate funding in the spring of 2027 to determine if further adjustments are needed for the following year.
We understand that this change may impact your academic and financial planning. The High School Office and our high school counseling teams are prepared to assist students in navigating these changes to ensure they remain on track for graduation and their post-secondary goals. If you have questions regarding specific course enrollments, please contact Ms. Bates the College and Career Coach or your counselor.
