If you need training on how to use Zoom, please reference our resources page, register for the Zoom self-paced course in Canvas or attend a live learning session this week. Other Zoom help can be found here:
Please note: We now have our own Zoom domain. If you are prompted anywhere to enter the domain, it is fcps-net.
Also please note: You can not login directly to zoom.us or Zoom apps with the Sign in with Google button. If you choose that route, you must select Sign in with SSO.
Zoom accounts will have the option to record to the cloud. We ask that this only be used for Chromebook teachers. Windows machine teachers can record to their computer. Once your session is finished, you will get an email to your session from the cloud where you can download the session and then upload it to Google Drive or YouTube (Unlisted).
First of all, NEVER DO THIS. You can send a student to the waiting room or ask them to leave. Follow these directions if you need to give access again (or you can set up a new link):
Go to your Waffle, scroll down and click your zoom icon.
Once it takes you to your zoom account screen, on the left click Settings. Then in the main page click “In meeting (Basic)”
You will scroll down to Allow removed participants to rejoin. This allows previously removed meeting participants and webinar panelists to rejoin.
Click the selector so it turns blue. This will allow them back in.
With that said this is not selective it will allow anyone you kicked back in. If you don’t want that you will need to create a whole new Zoom link with new meeting information.
Students may be kicked out of your meeting at anytime due to glitches. Make sure you turn in the Waiting Room sound feature to alert you during virtual classes that a student is waiting. Turn on the “Play sound when someone joins or leaves” option to hear a tone when someone is in the waiting room. To turn it on, click on the participants list, then click on the three dots.
If you have a co-teacher that you want to help co-host your Zoom meetings, you can set this up on the front end instead of adding them as a co-host inside of every meeting. You can set that up in the Meeting edit, go to the Meeting, hover over the title and then hit Edit. Scroll down to alternative host!
You can change the chat permissions for students during a Zoom meeting: Host Only, No One or Everyone! And you can turn off private chats as well.
In response to the extended school outage, another service is now available. On-call local interpreters are available for Zoom, FaceTime, Google Meet or phone calls. These interpreters are available without a scheduled request. Please contact Jessica Sanchez at jessica.sanchez@fayette.kyschools.us for additional information regarding on-call interpreters.
If you have parents or guardians or students who can't speak English at all or well, this is a great tool to communicate when a translator isn't available. (Thanks, Ms. Silvey!) You can sign in to Talking Points with your Google Sign-On, and it will prompt you to set up your account and then walk you through the steps to send a text message.
Using Remind or Google Hangouts Instructions
You can set up a free Google Voice number under a Gmail personal account. There’s a charge now for school-related accounts — unless you already had an existing Voice number already in existence. It will allow to make calls while disguising your cell #. https://support.google.com/voice#topic=1707989
Be available for help after instruction with Canvas! The Chat tool can be used for real-time conversation with course users. Any user in the course can participate in a chat conversation. All content in a course chat can be viewed by anyone in the course. Currently there is no load limit for a course chat, but larger numbers of course users may affect performance. Use the Inbox to send message to specific classes or students.
Want to send an IC blast? It's not a snow ball (get it? Icy blast?), it is a message you can send to your entire class. This is the best way to communicate at the beginning of NTI days to let parents and students know your platforms and expectations.
NEW! Tile View and student responses!
During NTI Days, teachers are to be available for their students from 8:00 am until 11:00, and noon until 3:00 pm. If you would like to schedule group sessions with your students for questions and help (up to 50 students), please use Google Meet. See the slideshow with an embedded video for more information. If it is your first time using Google Meet, schedule a practice session with your PLC or see Ms. McGrath for help!
